Bhopal, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangu Bhai Patel highlighted the profound roots of Indian knowledge tradition, attributing it to the Vedic, mythological, and ancient cultures. Speaking at a workshop organized by the Madhya Pradesh Private University Regulatory Commission and the Private University Association at the Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium, he emphasized that Indian culture reveres nature.
He noted that celestial bodies like the sun, moon, planets, and stars are integral to our life culture. The five elements of nature—air, fire, water, earth, and sky—are woven into our daily lives. This rich tradition of knowledge has remained timeless, embodying practicality, depth, and profound philosophical insights. It is essential to convey this remarkable legacy meaningfully to current and future generations.
Governor Patel underscored that texts like the Ramayana and Mahabharata are treasures of knowledge, science, and values. Each character in these epics symbolizes ideals such as love, respect, sacrifice, self-esteem, honor, and morality. He urged private universities to take on the responsibility of sharing these traditions and their wisdom with the younger generation. He encouraged educators to foster sensitivity among students towards the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society, empowering them to realize the vision of a developed India.
Patel remarked that in the Indian guru-shishya tradition, education transcends rote learning; it involves developing character, discipline, self-reliance, and a sense of duty. The pride of Indian knowledge tradition lies not merely in achievements but in the mindset that connects knowledge with the welfare of humanity and society. He defined the essence of education in this tradition as liberating individuals from ignorance, fear, and bondage, working towards the ideal of “may all be happy.”
During the workshop, Inder Singh Parmar, Minister of Higher Education, Technical Education, and AYUSH, emphasized that Indian knowledge tradition is not just a subject in the curriculum but a rich legacy of practical wisdom embedded in social life. He noted that the gratitude of our ancestors towards nature reflects their scientific and holistic worldview. The National Education Policy 2020 has created significant opportunities to integrate this rich tradition into education.
