Varun Dhawan Shares Anecdote About First Meeting with Sara Ali Khan

Mumbai, June 13: Actor Varun Dhawan recently revealed the story of his first encounter with Sara Ali Khan when she was just about 15 years old. He shared this anecdote during the promotion of the film ‘Coolie No. 1’ on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ in 2020.

During the conversation, Varun recounted that he first saw Sara in her teenage years, marking the beginning of their acquaintance. They later worked together for the first time in ‘Coolie No. 1’.

Varun narrated, “My film ‘Student of the Year’ had just been released, and I was at the gym. A girl wearing glasses was wandering around, talking on the phone. As I was heading to the lift, she suddenly turned and came back into it. She was staring at me while laughing and talking to someone on the phone. I wasn’t quite sure what she was trying to do.”

He recalled wondering who she was talking to since there was no network in the lift. After Varun exited the lift, Sara quietly followed him.

When host Kapil Sharma asked Sara whom she was speaking with, she admitted that she was just pretending to be busy while following Varun.

Regarding ‘Coolie No. 1’, the film is directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani under his banner, Pooja Entertainment. It is a reboot of the 1995 film of the same name, which starred Govinda and Karisma Kapoor. Interestingly, the original was a remake of the 1993 Tamil drama ‘Chinna Mapillai’.

In ‘Coolie No. 1’, Varun and Sara appeared together on screen for the first time, but they have not collaborated on any projects since then. Recently, Varun was seen in another film directed by David Dhawan, titled ‘Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai’, alongside lead actresses Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde.

This film is believed to be David Dhawan’s last directorial project before his retirement, having been released to audiences on June 5.
