Bihar Sharif, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Authorities in Bihar Sharif, located in Nalanda district, are investigating an incident of vandalism at a local Shiva temple that occurred over the weekend. Local residents reported the incident, which involved minors allegedly damaging the temple and urinating inside its premises.
The incident took place in the Sherpur Thawai neighborhood, where several children were seen throwing stones at the temple and attempting to damage a statue. Security footage from the temple captured the entire event, showing the minors not only vandalizing property but also urinating on the premises.
Upon learning of the vandalism, community members acted swiftly by notifying the police. Recognizing the sensitivity of the situation, the Nalanda police quickly apprehended three minors based on the CCTV evidence.
Local resident Suraj Kumar recounted his experience when he arrived at the temple on Saturday. He noticed debris scattered around but initially did not think much of it. After cleaning the area, he reviewed the CCTV footage and was shocked to see the children throwing stones and urinating near the Shiva Lingam while using foul language.
To prevent further disturbances in the community, Suraj reported the incident to the authorities. He expressed concerns about illegal encroachments on the temple’s access paths, which have made it difficult for worshippers to visit. Suraj noted that similar incidents have occurred in the past.
Aman Kumar, another temple-goer, highlighted that the area has a predominantly Muslim population, and the temple is the only one in the vicinity. He mentioned that mischief-makers often gather around the temple, and this incident was not isolated, as previous thefts had also taken place.
The temple, located in Ward Number 41 of the Bihar Sharif assembly constituency, was inaugurated earlier this year by local legislator Sunil Kumar, who invested nearly 1.5 million rupees in its construction. Regular worship services have been held since its opening, but the temple still lacks a boundary wall, allowing easy access for troublemakers.
The police have registered a case based on a written complaint from a local resident named Aarav Raj, and further legal actions are underway. To maintain communal harmony and law and order, police and administrative personnel have been deployed around the temple. Currently, the situation is reported to be stable and under control, with the detained minors being questioned.
