Rajasthan: Court Clerk and Home Guard Driver Arrested for Accepting Bribe of ₹40,000

Banswara, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Grade-I court clerk and a home guard driver in Banswara on Monday for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹40,000.

According to an ACB statement, the Banswara unit caught Rahul Chandel red-handed. Chandel, who works as a driver for an additional judicial magistrate, is accused of taking the bribe on behalf of the main accused, Sandeep Kumar Nanavati. Nanavati serves as the Grade-I clerk and reader for the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Banswara. Both men were arrested in connection with the case.

ACB Director General Govind Gupta reported that the bureau received a complaint alleging that Nanavati had solicited the bribe through Chandel. The money was requested to ensure that the complainant’s bail would not be revoked and to facilitate assistance in an ongoing court case.

On October 11, the ACB confirmed the bribe solicitation from both the complainant and a co-complainant. During their investigation, officials discovered that the accused had previously asked the complainant for ₹2,000 under the pretext of minor expenses.

Following confirmation of the allegations, the Banswara ACB team, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ratan Singh Rajpurohit and overseen by Superintendent of Police Piyush Dixit from the Udaipur range, conducted a trap operation on Monday. Chandel was apprehended while accepting the ₹40,000 bribe from Nanavati. Subsequently, Nanavati was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the bribery scheme.

Further inquiries and legal actions are underway under the supervision of ACB’s Additional Director General Smita Srivastava and Inspector General S. Parimala. The bureau is also conducting searches at the homes of both accused.

The ACB has advised the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters who exploit fears surrounding anti-corruption investigations. The bureau encourages anyone facing complaints or preliminary investigations to contact them directly to present their side of the story, emphasizing that decisions related to investigations are made after thorough review.
