Tamil Nadu By-Election Winners Take Oath as Legislators

Chennai, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : In Chennai, Margatham Kumaravel and Satyabhama from the Tamil Ga Vetrikazhagam (TVK) took their oaths as members of the Tamil Nadu Assembly on October 12, following their victories in the by-elections for the Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies.

The oath-taking ceremony was held in the Speaker’s chamber at the Secretariat, attended by various ministers including N. Anand, Sengottaiyan, Adhav Arjun, and K.G. Arunraj. This event marked the official start of their legislative terms after a successful election campaign.

The ceremony came on the heels of a significant win for TVK, which secured both seats in its first by-election contest. With these victories, the party has strengthened its foothold in these constituencies, showcasing a promising start in the electoral process.

In Madurantakam, Kumaravel received 74,048 votes, while both she and Satyabhama will now represent their respective areas in the Assembly, addressing local issues and participating in legislative activities.

Voting for these constituencies took place on October 6, with campaigns from TVK, DMK, AIADMK, Naam Tamilar Kachi, and leftist parties leading up to the election.

The performance of TVK in these by-elections was closely watched, viewed as a crucial test following their earlier Assembly elections. Chief Minister and TVK leader C. Joseph Vijay actively campaigned in both areas, engaging with voters through roadshows and public meetings to rally support for the party’s candidates.

In Madurantakam, CM Vijay conducted a roadshow on October 1, following a campaign visit to the Melmaruvathur temple. For Dharapuram, he addressed voters on September 30 and returned for a roadshow on the final day of campaigning, October 4, with 22 candidates vying for votes in that constituency.

The oath-taking ceremony shifted the focus from electioneering to the responsibilities awaiting the newly elected legislators, which include representing their constituents, voicing local concerns to the government, and contributing to Assembly debates.

For TVK, this occasion symbolizes the completion of the by-election process, with both successful candidates now assuming their roles as elected representatives of Madurantakam and Dharapuram.
