Uttar Pradeshs Development: From Announcements to Reality with Noida International Airport

Noida, March 29: Uttar Pradesh’s ‘double-engine’ government has not only laid the foundation for major projects but has also inaugurated them on schedule, demonstrating that development in UP is no longer just announcements but tangible results. The inauguration of the Noida International Airport in Jewar stands as a prime example of this progress.

The project was initiated on November 25, 2021, and the first phase of the airport was inaugurated on March 28, 2026. This marks Uttar Pradesh’s fifth international airport, aimed at alleviating the pressure of increasing air traffic in the Delhi-NCR region while providing a significant boost to the development journey of western UP. Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, Uttar Pradesh has transformed into a state where development projects are not mere announcements but are being realized on the ground.

Noida International Airport is not the only example. During Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s nine-year tenure, the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, which began construction in February 2022, was completed in record time. After its inauguration on December 30, 2023, this airport firmly established Ayodhya on the global religious tourism map. Additionally, March 10, 2024, was a significant date for the state’s aviation sector, with the inauguration of airports in Azamgarh, Aligarh, Chitrakoot, Moradabad, and Shravasti, enhancing regional connectivity across the state.

In terms of road networks and connectivity, under CM Yogi Adityanath’s guidance, the Purvanchal Expressway was inaugurated on November 16, 2021, after its foundation was laid on July 14, 2018. This has brought new economic hope to underdeveloped regions like Bundelkhand, where the Bundelkhand Expressway was dedicated to the public in July 2022 after its foundation was laid in February 2020.

Moreover, the ambitious Ganga Expressway project, connecting western and eastern UP, began construction on December 18, 2021, with its inauguration expected soon. Regarding rapid rail and metro projects, the country’s first rapid rail, the Nammo Bharat, Delhi-Meerut RRTS, was initiated on March 8, 2019. The first phase commenced operations in 2023, with full operations expected by February 2026. Similarly, the Agra Metro’s foundation was laid on December 7, 2020, and it is set to be inaugurated in March 2024, while the Meerut Metro was launched on February 22, 2026, redefining urban transport.

In the industrial and defense sectors, the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) was established in 2019, with operations commencing in 2023. It includes South Asia’s largest ammunition and missile plant in Kanpur, which began production in February 2024. Additionally, the BrahMos missile production unit in Lucknow was inaugurated in mid-2025. Currently, UPDIC has attracted investments worth millions of crores across six nodes: Aligarh, Agra, Kanpur, Lucknow, Jhansi, and Chitrakoot, where defense products are being manufactured.

Supporting the Digital India initiative, the Yotta Data Center operated by the Hiranandani Group in Greater Noida has emerged as one of Asia’s largest data centers for digital services and cloud storage. Launched in 2019, production began in 2022. Furthermore, the inauguration of the Samsung mobile factory in Noida in July 2018 has positioned UP as the leading state in mobile manufacturing in the country.

Additionally, a semiconductor factory in Jewar is set to commence production soon, establishing UP as a semiconductor hub and creating new opportunities in the IT sector. The vision of development through heritage has also led to significant religious and cultural projects in Uttar Pradesh. The inauguration of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor on December 13, 2021, transformed the pilgrimage experience in Varanasi. Following the consecration of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024, Ayodhya has emerged on the global religious tourism map. The Yogi government is also developing major pilgrimage sites through the establishment of the Pilgrimage Development Council.

Moreover, over 100 ancient heritage temples have been restored in the state. The successful implementation of these projects, aligned with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision, has significantly changed the landscape of Uttar Pradesh. Improved connectivity, increasing investments, new job opportunities, and tourism expansion have lifted Uttar Pradesh from the category of a lagging state to one of the fastest-growing economies in the country. Furthermore, Uttar Pradesh is rapidly progressing towards realizing the Chief Minister’s vision of a one trillion dollar economy.
