Uttar Pradesh Government Takes Historic Steps to Protect Workers Rights

Lucknow, May 1: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken significant steps to safeguard the interests of millions of outsourced and part-time workers who play a crucial role in the state’s development. This announcement was made by Asim Arun, the Minister of State for Social Welfare (Independent Charge), during the International Workers’ Day celebrations on Friday.

At the Labor Dialogue 2026 held in Lucknow, Arun stated that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is committed to working for all sections of society, including workers. He emphasized that workers contribute significantly to the state’s GDP. As economic development progresses, social development will follow suit. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Adityanath, the government has made the processes of leave, working hours, and wage payments transparent and mandatory for these employees through new labor codes and the establishment of an Outsourcing Service Corporation.

He clarified that exploitation of workers will no longer be possible, as their rights are now legally protected. During the event, he urged all departments to issue ID cards to outsourced workers within 15 days and to implement a system for awarding annual certificates and rewards to high-performing employees. He stressed the need to commit to enforcing labor laws.

Arun stated that the Yogi government’s goal is ‘Antyodaya.’ Outsourced workers are the backbone of our system, and providing them with social security and respect is a top priority. On this Labor Day, these reforms symbolize our commitment to their rights and the value of their hard work. Sanjeev Kumar Gond, the Minister of State for Social Welfare, added that workers play a vital role in making the country and state a leader. The Yogi government is timely providing them with benefits such as labor cards and wage increases. In 18 districts, Atal Residential Schools have been established, where thousands of workers’ children are receiving education.

Furthermore, Y.P. Singh, Chairman of UP Sidco, remarked that under the Yogi government, workers will be respected not just today, but every day. Their future will be better than before. During the program, workers and outsourced employees shared their experiences on stage. The event also provided information about four new labor laws, highlighting significant improvements in leave regulations for employees’ mental and physical well-being.

In accordance with the new labor codes from the Government of India, a wage structure has been established in Uttar Pradesh. Effective from April 1, 2026, this corporation aims to eradicate the exploitation of intermediaries. New wage rates have been set, starting at ₹11,000 for unskilled workers and ₹13,500 for skilled workers.
