Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai has strongly criticised the Union Budget 2026, calling it misleading and neglectful of the common people’s issues. He said that every section of society is facing difficulties, but the government has failed to address their concerns.
Speaking to a news agency, Ajay Rai highlighted several grievances, including the removal of senior citizen quotas in the railways and the reduction of many railway facilities. He also pointed out that farmers, labourers, and MGNREGA workers are not receiving fair wages, and the MGNREGA scheme is being weakened. “Overall, these are hollow promises aimed at deceiving the public,” he added.
Rai further accused the ruling BJP of spreading falsehoods and exploiting the people, mentioning the significant drop in gold and silver prices as a worrying sign. He noted the Sensex has fallen by several hundred points, indicating a total failure of the government. “The government must step down immediately for the country’s welfare,” he asserted.
He also raised concerns about farmers not getting the cost price for crops like sugarcane and paddy. Rai claimed there is no proper paddy procurement at central centres and that farmers are facing shortages of fertilisers. According to him, the government is relying only on false narratives and media marketing, while the people have understood the reality and want a change.
In a related statement, Congress General Secretary and UP in-charge Avinash Pandey expressed worry over the deteriorating economic condition of the country over the past eleven years. He said that due to lack of experience, the economic and social systems have suffered greatly. “Earlier, the socio-economic environment functioned smoothly, and we aimed to position India as a global power. However, today, farmers, youth, women, and small traders are severely troubled,” he explained.
Pandey added that people feel insecure, and the benefits of the decisions and laws favour only big industries. He criticised the budget’s provisions, stating they primarily benefit large industrialists, while small farmers, labourers, and schemes like MGNREGA are failing completely.
