New Delhi, March 5: The transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector can only be fully realized when it is built on a foundation of trust, ethics, and inclusion. This was highlighted in an official statement released on Thursday.
The statement further emphasized that reducing the diagnostic gap in healthcare, eliminating bias in algorithms, and ensuring equitable access to health services for all can only be achieved through clear policies, diverse and high-quality data, and training healthcare professionals to work alongside AI.
The “AI for All” initiative calls for the creation of an AI ecosystem that serves every patient, regardless of their region, income level, language, or geographical location.
In this context, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare recently unveiled the AI strategy for India’s healthcare sector, known as SAHI (Strategy for AI in Healthcare for India), during the “India AI Impact Summit 2026” held in New Delhi.
SAHI establishes a national framework aimed at guiding the responsible integration of AI into India’s health system. It recognizes AI as a crucial tool for strengthening healthcare systems while emphasizing that its use must prioritize public interest, trust, and the sustainability of health systems.
Discussions during the summit also revealed that for better utilization of AI, diversity in health data, accountable and trustworthy AI systems, and the use of AI for public benefit are essential.
Launched as a national framework, SAHI provides a clear roadmap for implementing AI in health services. Its goal is to guide policymakers, healthcare providers, and technology developers on how to responsibly adopt AI, ensuring that innovations align with medical needs, regulatory standards, equity, and public trust.
During the summit, the BODH (Benchmarking Open Data Platform for Health AI) was also introduced. This platform will provide a structured mechanism to validate and ensure the reliability of health AI solutions before large-scale implementation.
BODH will play a crucial role in ensuring that AI tools used by doctors are safe, trustworthy, and tested in real-world scenarios. Trust, safety, and accountability must be prioritized in India’s health AI journey.
The BODH platform was developed by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in collaboration with the National Health Authority.
The discussions surrounding the SAHI strategy, the need for diversity in health data, reliable AI systems, and testing platforms like BODH made it clear during the AI Summit 2026 that AI could bring significant changes to the healthcare sector in the future.
