Ranchi, February 23: Union Minister Sanjay Seth participated in the Jharkhand local elections on Monday. He accused the election process of severe mismanagement across the 48 municipal bodies in the state. He urged the public to step out and exercise their voting rights.
After casting his vote, Seth expressed concerns about the use of a single ballot box for both mayoral and ward councilor votes, suggesting it seemed like part of a “conspiracy.” Riding his motorcycle from his residence, he joined the queue at the polling booth like any other voter.
Speaking to the media, Seth noted the enthusiasm visible in the morning, indicating that voter turnout could surpass previous records. However, he alleged that there were efforts to reduce the voting percentage in urban areas. He mentioned that it took him about 15 minutes to vote, highlighting the unusual situation of having both types of votes cast in one box. “Couldn’t there be two ballot boxes? This is wrong. The mayor and councilor ballots should be separate. This is a lapse on the part of the election commission,” he stated.
Seth expressed concern that the counting of votes scheduled for February 27 could take all day due to the need to sort the ballots separately. He suggested this could be a tactic to prolong the counting process and exhaust the workers. “The world is going digital, yet we are still conducting elections with ballots. This could be a plot to influence voter turnout and create opportunities for discrepancies, but we will not let this conspiracy succeed,” he asserted.
The minister also questioned the intentions of the state government, stating that the “rule of law” has weakened and public services are unsatisfactory, leading to public discontent. He claimed that this time, candidates supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party would receive substantial backing.
Sanjay Seth urged the voters of Ranchi to come out in large numbers to vote. He encouraged the public to visit polling stations and vote for their preferred candidates, emphasizing the importance of voting for the progress of Ranchi.
In a concluding statement, he described the day as a grand festival of democracy. He highlighted the opportunity to revitalize the city through development and to illuminate every ward by dispelling darkness. After a long struggle, this moment has arrived for every resident. He called upon all Jharkhand residents to rise and vote for the betterment of their city, reminding them, “First vote, then work.”
