Iran to Enhance Cooperation with Russia and Gas Exporting Countries, Says Minister Hamid Bovard
Iran aims to strengthen ties with Russia and other gas-exporting nations, focusing on field development and export policies.

Tehran, October 25 (Daily Kiran) : Iran is set to bolster its collaboration with Russia and member countries of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF). Acting Oil Minister Hamid Bovard announced this initiative, emphasizing a focus on field development and alignment of export policies, which will be discussed at an upcoming summit in Moscow.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Minister Bovard departed for Moscow on Sunday. He is scheduled to participate in the eighth summit of heads of state and government of the GECF. Bovard highlighted that the main goal of the gas sector collaboration will be to improve coordination in gas field development, exchanges, and export policies.
During the summit, Iran will present its views and priorities while engaging in bilateral meetings with various ministers to discuss enhancing cooperation. Bovard noted that topics such as energy infrastructure security during conflicts, promoting gas exchanges, the potential for a shared gas market, and harmonizing international export policies will also be on the agenda.
He remarked on the strong ties between Iran and Russian energy companies, highlighting several agreements made for the development of gas and energy sectors. Discussions regarding gas exchanges between the two nations are ongoing.
IRNA reported that Bovard is attending the summit alongside the Iranian president. He will also take part in the 28th ministerial meeting of the GECF, which is set for Monday, followed by a meeting of heads of state and government the next day.
On Sunday, an executive board meeting of the GECF will also take place, chaired by Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs and Trade, Ali-Mohammad Mousavi. A special meeting of senior officials is also planned for the same day, aimed at finalizing key documents related to the summit, including the final declaration.
The GECF serves as an intergovernmental platform bringing together the world’s gas-producing and exporting nations. Discussions here focus on market conditions, energy security, demand and supply, trends in liquefied natural gas (LNG), and investment needs.
The 12 full member countries of this forum control approximately 70% of the world’s proven natural gas reserves. They account for about 38% of global commercial gas production and roughly 42% of total gas exports worldwide.
