Ukrainian MiG-29 Fighter Jet Crashes in Odesa Region During Mission

New Delhi, August 11: A Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet crashed in the Odesa region on the evening of August 10 while on a mission to destroy aerial targets. The pilot managed to eject safely and has been hospitalized.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, the Ukrainian Air Force shared details of the incident on its social media platforms, including Telegram and Facebook. They confirmed that a MiG-29 fighter jet was lost during a combat mission in southern Ukraine’s Odesa region.

In a Facebook post, the Ukrainian Air Force stated, “On the evening of August 10, 2026, a MiG-29 fighter was lost while conducting a combat mission. The pilot was targeting enemy aerial assets in the Odesa area. Preliminary information indicates that an emergency situation occurred during a missile launch, resulting in a fire and loss of control of the aircraft. The pilot attempted to save the plane but successfully ejected and was taken to a medical facility. The causes of the incident are under investigation.”

TASS also reported that the Air Force confirmed the MiG-29 was lost during a combat mission aimed at destroying aerial targets in the Odesa region.

Initial reports suggest that an unknown emergency situation led to the fire during the missile launch, causing the aircraft to go out of control. The pilot was unable to save the aircraft.

According to the Ukrainian military, the pilot ejected safely and is currently hospitalized. An investigation into the causes of the crash is ongoing.

This incident marks the second such occurrence in Ukraine within less than two weeks. The Ukrainian Air Force previously reported on July 29 that an F-16 fighter jet was lost due to an unknown emergency, prompting the pilot to eject.
