Ukraine Strikes Moscow Region Oil Refinery Amid Ongoing Conflict

New Delhi, June 16: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has claimed that Ukraine targeted the Moscow region with a long-range missile. He stated that the attack hit an oil refinery located approximately 500 kilometers away. This action is part of Ukraine’s strategy to increase pressure on Russia and push for an end to the war. The strike was a response to recent attacks carried out by Russia.

On Sunday night, Russia launched a barrage of attacks on Ukraine, deploying 70 missiles and 611 drones. Over 60 missiles were aimed at the capital, Kyiv, resulting in 11 fatalities and 35 injuries in the city alone. Nationwide, 53 people were reported injured.

Zelensky shared on the social media platform X, “This time, Moscow has witnessed the impact of Ukraine’s long-range capabilities. An oil refinery located nearly 500 kilometers away was attacked.”

He expressed gratitude to the Ukrainian Security Service, unmanned systems forces, special operations forces, defense intelligence, and missile troops for their effective work.

The Ukrainian President emphasized that Russia must be compelled to end its war against the Ukrainian people. He noted that Ukraine’s long-range weapons are a crucial part of this pressure.

This response is appropriate to Russia’s attacks and the prolonged war that must now come to an end. Following the success of this operation, Zelensky thanked the SBU, SBS, SSO, GUR, and missile force fighters for their impactful efforts.

Meanwhile, during the G-7 meeting held in Évian, France, former U.S. President Donald Trump also urged Russia to negotiate an end to the war.

Trump stated, “Russia should come to an agreement. Both Russia and Ukraine have lost many people. Last month, a total of 35,000 soldiers from both countries were killed. This is happening every month.”

He described the ongoing situation as madness, recalling a meeting he had with President Putin on Sunday.

Trump remarked that the fighting continues, and soldiers are being lost. “Nothing like this has happened since World War II. I have resolved eight wars, and I thought this would be the easiest to solve. There is significant animosity between the two leaders, but I plan to meet with him again later.”
