UGC Guidelines Causing Division, Worsening Social Atmosphere: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

Gonda: Political debates around the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines are intensifying. BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has expressed strong opposition, describing the guidelines as divisive and harmful to social harmony.

Speaking to the media, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said, “On Wednesday, I shared my views from my own village because I have long observed that children from Dalit and other backward communities regularly come to play with our children. There is widespread anger across the country regarding the guidelines introduced.”

He added that during a recent visit to Delhi, he met with knowledgeable individuals to discuss and understand the implications of these guidelines. “I stated that these guidelines are one-sided, portraying one community as oppressed while causing pain to another. Not a single representative of that community is included in the committee. This approach will only serve to divide society,” he said.

Singh continued, “I do not know the intention behind these guidelines, but they are creating tension in society. Children from OBC and Dalit communities, who understand the situation well, must also come forward. This is not just the pain of the upper castes; it affects the entire society.”

He urged policymakers to engage directly with rural communities before making decisions. “Instead of making decisions from offices, they should visit villages to see how all communities live together. I reiterate that these guidelines are one-sided, spreading tension and hatred. A reconsideration is necessary because the country’s atmosphere is deteriorating, and this must stop. I hope the government finds a solution,” he said.
