Washington, March 18: The United States has launched new strikes on Iranian missile bases near the Hormuz Strait. Military officials report that these bases posed a threat to international shipping. This operation, dubbed “Operation Epic Fury,” has intensified significantly.
According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), heavy bombs were utilized in these strikes, capable of destroying even fortified installations. The missile sites were located in Iran’s coastal region, close to the Hormuz Strait, where anti-ship missiles were endangering passing vessels.
This action is considered a major step in the campaign, as maritime areas have now become a crucial component. The Hormuz Strait has emerged as the focal point of U.S. military activities.
CENTCOM indicated that during this operation, U.S. Navy aircraft have conducted hundreds of combat flights, demonstrating America’s capability to maintain air power from the sea.
As of the latest reports, over 7,000 targets have been struck since the campaign began on February 28. This operation was initiated under presidential directives aimed at weakening Iran’s defense capabilities and targeting sites that pose immediate threats.
To date, more than 100 Iranian vessels have been damaged or destroyed, with the U.S. military conducting over 6,500 combat flights.
The strikes have targeted various military installations, including ballistic missile sites, anti-ship missile bases, headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), air defense systems, and military communication networks.
Throughout this operation, the U.S. has deployed its strength across air, land, and sea. This includes bombers like the B-1, B-2, and B-52, advanced fighter jets such as the F-22 and F-35, surveillance aircraft, and drones. In the sea, nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, submarines, and missile-equipped warships have been stationed.
On land, missile defense systems like Patriot and THAAD, rocket artillery, and drone countermeasures are being employed. This indicates that the campaign is being conducted on multiple levels simultaneously.
Special attention is being given to anti-ship missile sites due to the Hormuz Strait’s significance as a critical route for global oil supply. Any disruption here could impact trade and oil markets worldwide.
