New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Delhi police have arrested two members of the Vikas Kalia gang following an encounter in the Paharganj area on September 29. The special staff of the Delhi police received intelligence late Monday night regarding the suspects, prompting them to set up an operation to apprehend the criminals.
During the operation, the suspects opened fire on the police, who responded in self-defense. Officials reported that both suspects were injured in the exchange of gunfire.
According to police, the arrested individuals were wanted in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in mid-September during the Nabi Karim Shobha Yatra in Sadar Bazaar. Authorities indicated that both suspects have ties to the Vikas Kalia gang, which is noted for its criminal activities in the North District, with Kalia himself recorded as a ‘bad character’ at the Sadar Bazaar police station.
Earlier this month, on September 22, Delhi police had arrested Asif, a main suspect linked to a gang rape case involving a 17-year-old girl in Kalkaji. The girl and her male friend were targeted on her birthday while visiting the Kalkaji Mandir.
Asif, along with two accomplices named Hemant and Mukesh, posed as police officers to intimidate the victims. They forcibly took the girl to a secluded area in the DDA-maintained Aastha Kunj Park, where they assaulted her at gunpoint.
During a subsequent operation near Amar Colony, close to Lady Shri Ram College, Asif fired at the police team, hitting a head constable’s bulletproof vest. In the return fire, he sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg, and both Hemant and Mukesh were also apprehended.
