Hardoi, February 23: In a late-night encounter in Hardoi district, Uttar Pradesh, police clashed with thieves. During the exchange of fire, both criminals were injured, and a sub-inspector was also shot. The injured criminals and the sub-inspector were promptly admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to Hardoi police, on February 18, Sunil Johari reported a burglary to the police, stating that unknown thieves had broken into his home on the night of February 17, stealing jewelry and cash. Following this, a case was registered, and an investigation commenced. The police superintendent formed a team to uncover the details of the theft.
On the night of February 22-23, police received a tip-off indicating that the wanted suspects were heading towards the Hardoi bypass from Bawan Road, likely planning to escape. Acting on this information, the SHO arrived at the intersection with a force and began checking suspicious individuals and vehicles.
As the police team signaled two individuals on a motorcycle to stop, they attempted to flee towards Sandhi Road. Realizing they were cornered, the motorcycle riders opened fire on the police. In self-defense, the police returned fire, injuring Dheeraj Singh, also known as Dheeraj, from Hamirpur, and Kamruddin, also known as Kamrul, from Motihari, Bihar. During the incident, sub-inspector Rohit Pandey was also injured.
The police recovered ₹2,000, a motorcycle, a mobile phone, a laptop, two 315 bore pistols, and cartridges from the arrested suspects. The injured suspects and the police officer were taken to the hospital for medical attention.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the arrested individuals were seasoned thieves who scouted neighborhoods during the day and committed burglaries at night. They also confessed to stealing from Sunil Johari’s home.
Hardoi CO Ankit Mishra stated, “Based on a tip-off, our police team on duty at bypass 52 observed two individuals on a motorcycle. When we attempted to stop them, they tried to flee and fired at the officers with the intent to kill. The police responded in self-defense, resulting in both suspects being injured.”
