
Pune, June 13: The Yavat police in Pune district swiftly apprehended two individuals within two hours for attempting to instill fear using an illegal country-made pistol in the Choufula area.
According to senior police officials, the incident occurred on the evening of June 12 around 5 PM at the Renuka Art Center in Boriparthi, where the suspects, identified as Mayur Patil and Pawan Barmi, allegedly threatened the victim with death while displaying the illegal weapon, aiming to create a climate of terror in the area.
Following the threats, the victim promptly reported the incident to the local police station. Taking the complaint seriously, the Yavat police registered a First Information Report (FIR) immediately. The police have filed charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as serious provisions of the Arms Act.
After the incident, both suspects fled the scene. However, under the guidance of Police Inspector Santosh Tasgaonkar, a team led by Sub-Inspector Kishore Wagje utilized technical analysis to track down the suspects, leading to their arrest within just two hours. The police also recovered an illegal country-made pistol and a live cartridge from their possession.
Both suspects were presented in the Daund court on Saturday, where they were remanded to police custody until June 15. Local residents have praised the police for their prompt action. Incidents involving illegal firearms have reportedly increased in the Choufula area recently, prompting heightened vigilance from law enforcement.
Senior police officials are currently checking the suspects’ criminal records and investigating how many individuals they may have threatened, both within and outside the district.
