New Regulations for Cultural Heritage Preservation in Tibet Effective September 1

Beijing, June 15: Recent reports indicate that the 23rd meeting of the Standing Committee of the 12th People’s Congress of the Tibet Autonomous Region has approved a new revised version of regulations for the preservation of cultural heritage. These regulations will officially take effect on September 1.

The regulations consist of eight chapters, covering general provisions, immovable cultural heritage, archaeological excavations, museum collections, privately collected cultural heritage, research and utilization, supervision and management, legal responsibilities, and supplementary provisions. Their goal is to strengthen the preservation of cultural heritage, safeguard the outstanding historical and cultural legacy of the Chinese nation, promote scientific research, instill patriotism and revolutionary traditions, and build socialist spiritual and material civilization.

It is understood that these regulations, based on Tibet’s unique cultural heritage resources and regional cultural characteristics, enhance the legal framework for the preservation and utilization of cultural heritage. They aim to create a solid legal barrier for the high-quality development of Tibet’s cultural heritage.
