Aizawl, August 21: In a significant development in the murder case of student H. Ramdinpuia from Lunglei district, Mizoram, police have arrested two individuals. This case has taken a new turn following the arrests, one of whom is a relative of the deceased.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) apprehended 20-year-old Dengmingthanga and 34-year-old Lalneihkima around 1 PM on Thursday. Both suspects are residents of Mualthuam North. After completing legal procedures, they have been placed in judicial custody.
The case has been registered under FIR number 84/2026 at the Lunglei police station, citing sections 103(1) and 140(1) of the Indian Penal Code.
According to police, the SIT had interrogated both suspects multiple times during the investigation. The inquiry involved examining digital and forensic evidence, along with recording statements from several individuals.
One of the most shocking revelations is that Dengmingthanga, one of the arrested suspects, is a cousin of the victim, Ramdinpuia. Reports indicate that his home is located near Ramdinpuia’s residence, with their families linked through their grandfather.
Notably, Ramdinpuia went missing on August 3. Two days later, on August 5, her body was discovered near the Mualthuam North Government Middle School. During the investigation, police also recovered two knives from the vicinity of the school premises.
However, the motive behind the murder remains unclear. Authorities state that the investigation is ongoing, and details regarding the facts and evidence related to the murder cannot be disclosed at this time.
The SIT is conducting a thorough investigation. Police have urged the public to cooperate with the inquiry and to refrain from spreading rumors. Officials emphasize that all facts related to Ramdinpuia’s death and the motive for the murder will only be revealed after the legal investigation is complete.
