Two Arrested for Snatching Rs 50,000 from Woman in Barakat Nagar

Jaipur. A bundle of Rs 50,000 fell from the jacket of a woman shopping in Barakat Nagar and disappeared in a blink. In the crowded area, two bike-borne criminals stopped, picked up the money, and fled the scene after pushing the woman. Bajaj Nagar police traced over 300 CCTV footage clips and arrested both accused. The police have recovered Rs 20,000 out of the stolen amount.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Sanjeev Nain said the arrested accused Lokesh alias Chhotu (21) and Alok Umarwala (18) are residents of Mahesh Nagar. Both are addicted to smack and used stolen bikes to scout empty houses and commit robberies. They have been in jail several times before.

According to SHO Poonam Chaudhary, the accused were caught on CCTV carrying the bundle and fleeing the spot. A detailed chart of the escape route was prepared by reviewing footage from nearly 300 cameras. The police reached their homes, raided, and arrested them. The bike used in the crime has also been seized.

How the incident happened – second-by-second sequence:

  • A mother and daughter were shopping for a wedding and stepped out of the shop.
  • While crossing the road, a bundle of Rs 50,000 (in Rs 500 notes) slipped from the woman’s jacket onto the street.
  • The woman did not notice and crossed the road.
  • Two youths on a bike stopped; one got down and picked up the bundle near an e-rickshaw.
  • The woman and daughter ran after them, but the accused pushed them and escaped on the bike.
  • No one in the crowded market helped the victim woman.

The victim is from Baran district and had come to Jaipur for her daughter’s wedding shopping. The incident occurred just as she stepped out of the shop in Barakat Nagar.
