Twisha Sharma Death Case: Fugitive Husband Samarth Singh Seeks Interim Bail in Madhya Pradesh High Court

Bhopal, May 21: In the ongoing investigation into the death of Twisha Sharma, her husband Samarth Singh remains at large. On Thursday, he filed a petition for interim bail in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Singh submitted his request through his lawyer to the Jabalpur bench of the High Court. The case, titled ‘Samarth Singh vs. State of Madhya Pradesh,’ is currently listed as ‘pending’ on the court’s website. No orders have been issued yet.

Previously, Judge Pallavi Dwivedi of the Bhopal District Court rejected Singh’s interim bail plea. This decision comes as police intensify their search for him, with no leads on his whereabouts since Twisha’s death.

In a bid to expedite the investigation, the Bhopal police have increased the reward for information leading to Singh’s arrest from ₹10,000 to ₹30,000. A lookout notice has already been issued to prevent him from leaving the country.

Twisha Sharma was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal on May 12. Her family has accused Samarth Singh and his mother of dowry harassment and cruelty.

The post-mortem report from AIIMS Bhopal indicates that the case is likely a suicide, with marks on Twisha’s neck consistent with hanging from a belt.

Samarth Singh’s mother, Giribala Singh, a co-accused in the case and a former principal district judge, has been granted interim bail by the Bhopal District Court.

The victim’s family plans to challenge her interim bail in the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s Jabalpur bench. Ankur Pandey, the family’s lawyer, confirmed this on Thursday, stating, “We will file a petition against the interim bail granted to Giribala Singh.”

Giribala Singh retired from her position as Chief Justice in February 2023 and currently serves as the chairperson of the Bhopal-2 District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

Meanwhile, the state government has ordered a separate investigation against her under the Consumer Protection Rules, 2020.
