New Delhi, September 3: Union Minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) patron Jitan Ram Manjhi has been transferred to Delhi for further treatment following a deterioration in his health. The former Chief Minister of Bihar was recently admitted to Medanta Hospital in Patna due to health issues.
After showing signs of improvement, he was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. However, reports indicate that he developed a fever again late Wednesday night.
Following medical advice, the decision was made to transfer him to Delhi for additional tests and treatment. Family members accompanied him during the journey.
In Delhi, several medical tests are expected for the Union Minister. The exact cause of his recurring health problems has not yet been identified.
His family and party leaders are awaiting the results of the tests and further information from doctors. The news of Manjhi’s health has raised concerns among political leaders and supporters in Bihar.
In recent weeks, Manjhi has been politically active, particularly regarding the issue of reservations and the demand for sub-categorization within the Scheduled Caste quota. His stance has led to public exchanges with Union Minister Chirag Paswan.
While Paswan has opposed any review of the current reservation system, Manjhi and HAM support sub-categorization to ensure that the benefits of reservations reach the most disadvantaged communities.
Manjhi referenced a 2024 Supreme Court ruling, which stated that states could implement sub-categorization within the Scheduled Caste quota, subject to constitutional requirements.
He argued that this ruling provides states with a basis to examine whether the benefits of reservations are equitably distributed among all sections of the Scheduled Caste community.
He also contended that some communities have historically received an unequal share of reservation benefits, while economically and educationally disadvantaged groups have remained underrepresented.
Citing Punjab as an example, Manjhi claimed that sub-categorization has led to a redistribution of reservation benefits among various communities.
