TVK May Join India Bloc After Gaining Parliamentary Representation, Says Manickam Tagore

Chennai, August 23: Congress leader and MP Manickam Tagore announced on Sunday that the ‘Tamilaga Vetri Katchi’ (TVK) may be invited to join the India Bloc once it secures representation in Parliament. He emphasized that the opposition coalition consists of parties that currently have MPs.

During a press conference in Chennai, Tagore responded to inquiries regarding whether Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s party is part of the India Bloc. He stated, “Currently, TVK does not have any MPs. Once the party wins parliamentary seats, we will invite them to join the coalition. We cannot invite a party without MPs to be part of the alliance. Once they have MPs, we will certainly consider including them.”

Tagore also reflected on the political developments following the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where TVK emerged as the largest party by winning 106 seats.

According to Tagore, after the election results, Vijay was the first to call Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, seeking support to form the government and assume the Chief Minister position. He noted, “Congress was the first party to submit a letter of support to the TVK government. Every minister in the current government is aware of this. The government and its ministers initially received support from Congress.”

Tagore claimed that due to Congress’s intervention, the BJP was unable to establish an alternative government in the state. He alleged that without Congress’s backing, Home Minister Amit Shah would have attempted to destabilize TVK and elevate AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami to the Chief Minister role.

When asked about Vijay’s limited public statements on national politics and coalition matters, Tagore mentioned that the Chief Minister prefers to speak only when necessary. He added, “Let the elections happen first. Vijay generally speaks very little, but when it’s time for him to present his stance, he will do so clearly and accurately.”
