Tulika Mann: From Judo to Silver Medal Glory at the Commonwealth Games

New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Commonwealth Games 2026 saw India shine in judo, with the team securing two gold and one silver medal. This marked a historic moment, as it was the first time India won a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games, highlighting the growing international presence of Indian athletes in the sport. Central to this achievement is Tulika Mann.

Born on September 9, 1998, in New Delhi, Tulika has played a significant role in elevating India’s status in judo on the global stage. Her journey to becoming a successful judoka was not without challenges. Losing her father at a young age, Tulika was raised by her mother, who worked long hours, leaving her alone at home. To combat loneliness, she joined a judo class, sparking her interest in the sport.

Starting her judo training in the fourth grade, Tulika demonstrated immense dedication and talent. Her strong performances in state-level competitions led her to earn a silver medal at the national level, showcasing her skills to the entire country.

Competing in the 78+ kg category, Tulika won bronze medals at the Asian Junior Championships in Bishkek in 2017 and Beirut in 2018. She also claimed gold at the South Asian Games held in Kathmandu in 2019. Her talent was further recognized at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, where she won a silver medal.

Notably, Tulika did not participate in the Commonwealth Games 2026. Starting judo as a way to keep herself busy, her journey to international success exemplifies hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to her goals. She has become an inspiring figure, especially for young girls in India aspiring to make their mark in sports.
