Indore, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : India secured a thrilling victory over the West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20 International held at Holkar Stadium on October 11. Following the win, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy praised the Indian bowlers for their exceptional performance.
The Indian bowling attack successfully defended a target of 224 runs, restricting the West Indies to 209 runs while losing seven wickets. This match marked the first instance in the ongoing series where a team failed to chase down the target. Nitish contributed 21 runs with the bat and took one wicket for 19 runs.
Reflecting on the match, Nitish expressed satisfaction with how the bowlers executed their plans in the final overs. He noted that they managed to control the run rate effectively and delivered excellent yorkers during the death overs, preventing the West Indies from reaching their goal.
In a post-match interview, Nitish stated, “A win is a win. We all take pride in our efforts. We understand that it’s not easy, but the bowlers implemented the plan very well. At that point, I believe they needed 14 runs per over, and we thought if we could restrict them to just one run per ball, it would work in our favor.”
He further explained, “We were not solely focused on taking wickets. Sometimes a defensive strategy can also turn into an attacking one. Our captain’s plans were very clear. We had to stick to our strategy and bowl according to our fielding setup. Even if we conceded a six, we had to remain committed to our plan.”
When asked about the challenge of setting a good score on a pitch with small boundaries, Nitish highlighted the contribution of lower-order batsman Prince Yadav, who scored an unbeaten 13 runs off six balls, including three boundaries.
He added, “We started well, but we lost a few wickets in between, which made our innings a bit shaky. However, Prince’s crucial runs at the end made a significant difference.” The fourth match between India and the West Indies is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
