West Indies Captain Shai Hope Reflects on Bowling Performance After T20 Loss to India

Indore, October 12 (Daily Kiran) : The West Indies faced a setback on Sunday, losing to India by 14 runs in the third T20 International match held in Indore. Chasing a target of 224 runs, the West Indies managed only 209 runs, losing seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

After the match, West Indies captain Shai Hope expressed that the team could have performed better with the ball. He remarked, “There are many aspects to critique. However, the margins in cricket are very slim. As a winning team, you can identify specific moments that made a difference. Perhaps we could have improved our bowling, and we let a few boundaries slip away. I believe the way we fought back in the game was commendable. If you look at the partnership from the start, it was quite dangerous, but thanks to Rostan, we took some wickets and regained control of the match.”

Hope acknowledged that the opening pair has struggled throughout the series, emphasizing the importance of a solid start. “Yes, we need a good opening partnership to lay a strong foundation, but we cannot blame just one or two players for this. The absence of dew also had an impact. We felt the ball was swinging a bit more towards the end of our innings. Credit goes to the Indian bowlers; they bowled exceptionally well and demonstrated how to deliver yorkers. They deserve recognition for that.”

India set a challenging target by scoring 223 runs first. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with a powerful 69 runs off just 30 balls, hitting six fours and five sixes. Ishan Kishan contributed 37 runs from 18 balls, while Tilak Verma added 28 runs from 16 balls.

For the West Indies, Kieron Pollard scored 42 runs off 27 balls, and Shimron Hetmyer made a quick 43 runs from 26 balls. Rutherford chipped in with 32 runs off 21 deliveries. In the closing overs, Shamar Springer managed an impressive 35 runs off just 11 balls, but it was not enough to secure victory. With this win, India took a 2-1 lead in the series.
