Trump Signals Last Chance for Iran Peace Talks, Awaiting Right Answer

Washington, May 21: President Donald Trump has indicated that his administration is in the final stages of peace talks with Iran and is willing to wait a few more days for the ‘right answer.’ He stated, “Let’s see what happens.”

In a conversation with reporters, Trump remarked, “Either we will reach an agreement, or we may have to take some tougher steps. But hopefully, it won’t come to that.”

According to a report from the Xinhua news agency, the President claimed he is not in a rush to finalize a peace agreement. He emphasized that he does not want a limited deal focused solely on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump asserted, “This time, we are giving it one chance. I do not want any half-measures.” He added, “I am not in a hurry. You never think, ‘Oh, elections are coming, so we need to rush.’ I am absolutely not in a hurry.”

The President also mentioned that he had a very productive phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Wednesday. Turkey is seen as a crucial mediator in the discussions between the U.S. and Iran.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran warned on Wednesday that if the U.S. and Israel attack again, the conflict could spread beyond the Middle East.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, stated on the social media platform X that if another war breaks out with Iran, the consequences for the U.S. would be significant and unpredictable. He referenced a recent report from the U.S. Congress that noted dozens of aircraft have been lost.

On February 28, the U.S. and Israel conducted joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, resulting in the deaths of Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, several senior military commanders, and civilians. In retaliation, Iran targeted Israel and U.S. positions in the Middle East with missiles and drones.

A ceasefire was established on April 8, followed by a round of peace talks in Islamabad, Pakistan, on April 11 and 12, which did not yield any agreement.
