Trump Hints at Possible Deployment of U.S. Troops to Iran if Necessary

New York, March 3: Tensions are escalating globally, and U.S. President Donald Trump has signaled a shift from his previous stance on foreign military engagements. He stated that he does not entirely rule out the possibility of deploying American troops to Iran “if necessary.”

In an interview with the New York Post, Trump remarked, “As every president says, ‘There will be no soldiers on the ground.’ I am not saying that.” He indicated that troops could be sent if required, although he also mentioned that such a need might not arise.

Before Trump’s comments, U.S. Central Command reported on social media platform X that four American service members had been killed by Monday.

During the announcement of Operation Epic Fury on Saturday morning, Trump had anticipated potential casualties among U.S. troops. In a video announcement, he stated, “The Iranian regime wants to kill. Brave American heroes could lose their lives, and our soldiers may be harmed; this often happens in war.”

In a Monday interview with the New York Post, Trump described Operation Epic Fury as progressing “well ahead of schedule” and “ending very quickly.” He initially expected it would take four weeks to eliminate Iran’s leadership, but 49 leaders were reportedly killed “in one day,” including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

However, Trump mentioned that he anticipates Operation Epic Fury will last four to five weeks. If it takes longer, he is prepared for that eventuality. Israel’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, stated that it will take as long as necessary.

After several failures in U.S. military engagements abroad, American citizens are wary of entanglements. This sentiment was reflected in a Reuters-Ipsos poll, where only 27% supported an attack on Iran, while 43% opposed it, and 13% were uncertain.

Trump dismissed the poll results, stating, “I don’t care about polling. I need to do the right thing. I believe people are genuinely affected by what is happening.” He hinted that he relies on a “silent majority” that, according to him, would show up in what he calls the “real poll.”
