Landry’s appointment in December was criticized as a diplomatic breach, as he referred to Denmark’s governance over Greenland as an occupation and urged the territory to seek independence in order to align more closely with the United States.
Trump targeted both Greenland and Danish officials in his statement, saying, “Together with the fantastic Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, we are sending a magnificent hospital boat to Greenland to care for the many people who are sick and not receiving care there. It’s on the way!!!”
Landry welcomed Trump’s announcement on social media platform X, expressing pride in working on this significant issue with the President.
