Trump Administration Files Complaint Against Harvard University Over Alleged Anti-Semitic Discrimination

Washington, March 21: The Trump administration has filed a lawsuit against Harvard University regarding alleged anti-Semitic discrimination. This action comes after months of stalled negotiations between the federal government and the university.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the complaint was submitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. The lawsuit accuses the Ivy League institution of violating the civil rights of Jewish and Israeli individuals, claiming that Harvard has turned a blind eye to incidents of anti-Semitism and discrimination against these groups.

The complaint alleges that Jewish and Israeli students faced severe, widespread, and intentional harassment based on their ethnicity or national origin. This harassment reportedly hindered their ability to participate in educational opportunities at Harvard and deprived them of the benefits of education.

Furthermore, the lawsuit asserts that Harvard was aware of the harassment and expulsion of Jewish and Israeli students but acted with deliberate indifference, knowingly discriminating against them.

Since January 2025, the U.S. government has warned several universities that their funding could be cut if they do not amend their policies. Key demands included ending anti-Semitism on campus and abolishing diversity initiatives that benefit certain minority groups.

However, in April 2025, Harvard rejected these demands from the federal government. Subsequently, the administration announced it would freeze $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and $60 million in multi-year contract funds for the university.

Additionally, President Donald Trump announced in February that his administration is seeking $1 billion in damages from Harvard University.
