Agartala, March 14: Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced on Friday that ₹46.36 crore will be directly deposited into the bank accounts of 2.16 lakh farmers in the state under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
The announcement was made during the distribution program for the 22nd installment of the scheme, which was attended virtually by Chief Minister Manik Saha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the event from Assam.
The state-level program took place at the State Agricultural Research Center located in Arundhati Nagar, on the outskirts of Agartala.
Minister Nath explained that the PM-KISAN scheme, launched in February 2019, aims to provide financial assistance to farmers and enhance their income. Although the scheme became effective on December 1, 2018, its implementation in Tripura began the following year.
The financial aid provided under this scheme enables farmers to purchase agricultural materials and meet household needs. The entire cost is borne by the central government.
Under the scheme, eligible farmer families receive ₹6,000 annually, distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000, directly deposited into their bank accounts.
According to Minister Nath, by the 21st installment, over ₹4 lakh crore had been transferred to the bank accounts of more than 11 crore farmers across the country.
He also noted that due to the dedicated efforts of the state government and special initiatives from the center, farmers in the state’s Right of First Refusal (ROFR) areas are also benefiting from this scheme.
“Until the 21st installment, a total of 2,85,521 farmers in Tripura have received ₹931.53 crore in financial assistance directly in their bank accounts,” he added.
Minister Nath mentioned that Prime Minister Modi digitally released the 22nd installment of the PM-KISAN scheme by pressing a button from Guwahati at 5 PM on Friday. He stated that across the country, ₹18,630 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.32 crore eligible farmers. In Tripura alone, more than ₹46.36 crore will be deposited into the accounts of 2.16 lakh eligible farmers under this scheme.
