Trinamool Leader Arrested in Bengal for Assault and Harassment Allegations

Kolkata, June 15: A former Trinamool Congress president, Rezaul Khan, was arrested by police in the Bankura district’s Indpur block. He faces charges of assaulting a BJP worker and allegedly harassing the worker’s wife.

According to a senior officer from the Bankura district police, the arrest was made based on a complaint filed by the BJP worker. The complainant alleged that Rezaul attacked him at his home and physically assaulted him. He also claimed that the Trinamool leader harassed his wife, vandalized property, and threatened the family with a weapon.

Police officials from the Indpur police station arrested Rezaul on Saturday night after receiving the complaint. He was presented in the Khatra sub-divisional court in Bankura on Sunday, where the court ordered him to be held in police custody for three days.

Since the BJP came to power by ousting the Trinamool Congress government in the state, several Trinamool leaders have been arrested on various charges, including extortion, corruption, and harassment. Rezaul’s arrest is the latest in this ongoing trend in Bankura.

The complainant stated that he had previously accused Rezaul of corruption ahead of the assembly elections, which led to the Trinamool leader’s anger towards him.

The complaint alleges that days before the elections, Rezaul, along with some goons, attacked the complainant’s home. In addition to vandalism, the complainant’s wife was allegedly harassed, and the entire family was threatened with death while weapons were displayed.

Following the written complaint, the Indpur police took action. Rezaul has not commented on the charges against him.
