
Dehradun, June 24: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid heartfelt tributes to renowned shooter and Padma Shri awardee Jaspal Rana on Wednesday in Majhaun, Dehradun.
Central Minister Rajnath Singh offered prayers for strength and courage to Rana’s family. He emphasized that Rana played a pivotal role in enhancing the global recognition of Indian shooting. Singh noted that Rana’s significant contributions to the sports world would be remembered for many years to come.
During the tribute, Rajnath Singh met with the grieving family members and expressed his deep condolences.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also honored Jaspal Rana, stating that Rana elevated the pride of Uttarakhand and the nation through his outstanding performances at both national and international levels.
The Chief Minister added that Rana’s legacy would serve as a lasting source of inspiration for future athletes.
The tribute ceremony was attended by several prominent leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, Uttarakhand Ministers Saurabh Bahuguna and Khajan Das, BJP MPs Mahesh Sharma, Ajay Bhatt, and Sudhanshu Trivedi, along with other dignitaries.
Jaspal Rana, a Dronacharya Award-winning coach and recipient of the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri, passed away on June 13 in New Delhi due to health complications. He was undergoing treatment at a hospital in South Delhi.
Regarded as one of India’s finest shooters, Rana had a remarkable career spanning over three decades. He was India’s most successful athlete at the Commonwealth Games, winning a total of 15 medals, including nine golds, across four editions of the event. His achievements also include four gold medals and one silver medal at the Asian Games.
