Tragic Road Accident in Giridih Claims Lives of Two Laborers

Mumbai, May 5: A tragic road accident in Giridih district of Jharkhand resulted in the deaths of two elderly laborers on Tuesday, while another was left seriously injured.

The incident occurred near the Panchayat Bhawan in Makhamargo on the Sariya-Rajdhanwar main road. The deceased have been identified as 70-year-old Basdev Sahu and 65-year-old Lakhiya Devi (wife of Lakpat Sahu), both residents of Jitkundi village. A fellow villager, 65-year-old Dhanpat Sahu, sustained severe injuries in the crash.

Reports indicate that the three laborers were walking to their work site in the Makhamargo area when they were struck by a speeding and uncontrolled pickup van from behind. The impact was so severe that Basdev Sahu and Lakhiya Devi died on the spot, while Dhanpat Sahu fell to the ground, bleeding profusely.

After the accident, the driver managed to flee the scene with the vehicle. Local villagers promptly informed the Birni police, who rushed to the site and transported the injured Dhanpat Sahu to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Upon arrival, the Birni police took possession of the bodies for post-mortem examinations and initiated a search for the fleeing vehicle and its driver. Meanwhile, the atmosphere in Jitkundi village is one of mourning. Residents expressed their concerns over the increasing number of accidents on the Sariya-Rajdhanwar road, urging authorities to enforce speed limits and implement robust safety measures.
