Independent MLA Umesh Kumar Resigns from Uttarakhand Assembly, Criticizes Opposition for Lack of Support
Umesh Kumar resigns from the Uttarakhand Assembly, expressing disappointment over the oppositions lack of support on key issues.

Gairsain, October 28 (Daily Kiran) : Independent MLA Umesh Kumar, representing the Khanpur seat, resigned from the Uttarakhand Assembly on Wednesday. His decision came amid frustration with the opposition’s failure to support crucial public issues.
Kumar expressed disappointment, stating that he had hoped for collaboration from opposition members on matters affecting farmers and the general public over the past four years. However, he often found himself let down. “I have always stood with the opposition during their movements, but when I sought support for issues concerning my constituency, they backed away,” he said.
In a conversation with reporters, Kumar revealed, “I have submitted my resignation and am hurt by the opposition’s attitude. I supported them at every turn, even sleeping on the floor alongside them during late-night sessions.”
He highlighted several key issues he raised, including farmer credit card interest rates, disaster relief, and the need for permanent residency certificates for Haridwar residents. He had expected the opposition to stand by him on these matters, but they did not.
Meanwhile, a two-day assembly session in Gairsain saw continued protests from Congress members. Demonstrations persisted for a second day as they opposed the shortened session duration, demanding more time to address various issues, including roads, health, education, corruption, and public grievances. The Congress also raised concerns about the recent Ankita Bhandari murder case, questioning the ruling party’s silence on the matter.
