Opposition Criticizes BJPs Save Democracy, End Anarchy March Ahead of Mega Rally

Opposition leaders in New Delhi challenge BJPs Save Democracy march, questioning its motives and treatment of political events.

New Delhi, October 28 (Daily Kiran) : Opposition leaders in New Delhi have voiced strong criticism of the BJP’s upcoming ‘Save Democracy, End Anarchy’ march, scheduled ahead of a major rally. They accuse the ruling party of undermining democratic institutions and misusing government machinery to target opposition parties.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi emphasized the need to protect democracy from the BJP. She claimed the party has weakened various institutions, including the Election Commission and financial agencies. “It’s laughable to think we need to save democracy from the BJP, given how they are eroding every institution,” she stated. Chaturvedi remarked that the BJP has exploited these institutions to create, weaken, and dismantle political parties, likening the situation to the saying, “the thief scolds the cop.”

CPI(M) leader Hannan Mollah asserted that every political party has the right to organize marches and protests. He questioned why the government treats events differently depending on whether they are organized by the ruling party or the opposition. “The treatment of events matters. When it’s the ruling party’s program, all arrangements are made, using government resources. But for opposition events, numerous restrictions are imposed,” he noted, criticizing the conditions placed on the Ramleela Maidan.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit also mocked the BJP’s march, suggesting that their efforts to “save democracy” could turn them into a laughingstock. “If they want to march under the pretense of saving democracy, let them. It’s another story that people on the streets will laugh at them,” he remarked.

Dikshit raised concerns about the choice of the Red Fort as the starting point for the BJP’s march, questioning its significance and the party’s perspective on Mughal history. “The Red Fort symbolizes Mughal power. Why do they keep returning to this site when they seem to exclude Mughal history from their narrative?” he asked.

Anish Gawande, spokesperson for NCP(SP), highlighted alleged discrimination in granting permits for political rallies. He questioned why the BJP is allowed to hold events while others face restrictions. “I’m glad Nitin Naveen is holding a rally, but why does he get permission when others do not? If you want to hold a student protest or if you’re the parents of Ankita Bhandari, you won’t get permission. So why is it only the BJP that is granted permission?” he inquired.

Gawande accused the BJP of spreading chaos and stressed the importance of questioning why those allegedly undermining democracy are permitted to hold rallies.
