Tragic Lightning Strikes Claim Three Lives in Katihar, Bihar

Patna, April 27: After several days of intense heat, the weather in Katihar took a sudden turn on Sunday. A severe storm swept across the district, bringing heavy rainfall.

While this abrupt change provided temporary relief from the scorching heat, it also led to a tragic incident where lightning struck in different locations, resulting in the deaths of three individuals.

The victims have been identified as Mohammad Abbas (65) from the Shitalmuni Panchayat in Ajman Nagar, Manglesh Kumar (27) from the Chandwa Panchayat in the Kochad block, and Akmal Hussain (45) from Islam Pur Sukhasan village in the Semapur police area.

Mohammad Abbas lost his life while he was in the fields retrieving his livestock when lightning struck him. In another incident, Manglesh Kumar was killed during the storm in Khudna village. His family is devastated; his wife, Dolly Devi, and their four children are in deep shock, making it difficult for them to cope, leaving the entire village in mourning.

Similarly, Akmal Hussain was working in his field after harvesting maize when lightning struck him amid the sudden rain and strong winds, resulting in his immediate death.

Following these incidents, district administration and police teams arrived in the affected areas to assure grieving families of their support. Officials have urged residents to remain vigilant during adverse weather conditions and advised them to avoid open fields and outdoor activities during storms and lightning.

The district administration has recovered the bodies and sent them to Sadar Hospital, Katihar, for post-mortem examinations. Authorities have initiated the compensation process for the victims’ families as per government regulations.

These events have cast a deep shadow of grief over the affected villages, despite the much-needed relief from the ongoing severe heat that the rain has provided.

The weather in Bihar’s Seemanchal region has been changing over the past 24 hours, offering some respite from the extreme heat.
