APEC Energy Think Tank Forum 2026 Held in Dalian

Dalian, August 22: The APEC Energy Think Tank Forum 2026 took place in Dalian, located in northeastern China’s Liaoning province. Over 100 representatives from 16 APEC member economies, international organizations, think tanks, and research institutions participated in the event.

Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on critical issues such as energy security, regional resilience, energy technology, innovation cooperation, multilateral collaboration, and the establishment of think tank networks. They reached a consensus on enhancing practical energy cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region and promoting shared prosperity.

Energy serves as a vital foundation for economic development and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region. Given the current complex and unstable international energy landscape, all participants agreed that APEC economies should further reduce existing barriers through institutional cooperation. Additionally, there is a need to better align energy security with green transformation, strengthen collaboration and innovation in key fundamental technologies, and enhance connectivity among regional energy markets. This will aid in establishing a robust and resilient energy security system in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to reports, the forum released a document titled “China and APEC Energy Cooperation: Promoting Prosperity in the Asia-Pacific through Energy Collaboration.”

The report indicated that since joining APEC in 1991, China has continuously worked to align its energy development strategies with other economies. This collaboration spans various sectors, including traditional energy, new energy, and electricity. It encompasses a full range of investments, trade, and infrastructure, leading to improved coordination between supply and demand, green development, stronger connections among supply chains, and a governance framework based on collaborative energy cooperation. This has also enhanced China’s contribution to regional energy security and sustainable development.

During the forum, it was announced that the 16th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting will be held in Beijing from September 10 to 11.
