Guwahati, September 3: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, located in Dergaon, Golaghat district, has emerged as a national-level police training institution. Police personnel from Assam and several other states are receiving specialized training here.
Chief Minister Sarma made these remarks after attending the passing-out parade of newly trained Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) and Assam Police communication personnel at the academy.
Emphasizing the academy’s growing role in police training, the Chief Minister noted that personnel from various states, including Assam, Manipur, and Goa, are being trained at the Dergaon facility.
While congratulating the trainees, Chief Minister Sarma expressed his admiration for their performance during the passing-out parade.
He also mentioned that the academy will host a state-level conference for Superintendents of Police (SP) over the next two days. Senior police officials will gather to discuss critical law and order issues facing the state.
During the conference, Chief Minister Sarma will remain at the police academy and participate in discussions aimed at strengthening Assam Police and enhancing their capacity to tackle new challenges.
According to the Chief Minister, the conference will focus on various policing and public safety issues, particularly crimes against women and children, as well as the fight against drug abuse.
These discussions will provide senior police officials with an opportunity to assess current policing strategies and consider measures to improve law and order and strengthen the overall security framework in Assam.
The Chief Minister’s visit to the academy comes at a time when the institution is expanding its role beyond training Assam police personnel, as officers from other states are also enrolling in courses here.
Alongside the passing-out parade, the training of a new batch of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) and Assam Police communication personnel has been completed. Chief Minister Sarma praised the discipline and performance of the trainees.
The two-day SP conference is expected to see senior officials from across Assam come together to discuss operational priorities and strategies to address significant law and order challenges in the state.
