Tragic Fire at Coaching Center Claims Lives in Lucknow

Lucknow, June 22: A devastating fire broke out at a coaching center in Lucknow on Monday, resulting in the tragic deaths of 15 individuals, including several students. The incident was so horrific that some students jumped from the roof in a desperate attempt to escape the flames. Families of those enrolled at the center are engulfed in fear and uncertainty as many are still unaccounted for following the disaster.

Parijot Singh, a resident of Alambagh, shared that he received a distressing call from his son, who pleaded, “Dad, there’s a fire, please save me.” Upon arriving at the scene, Singh and his family were prevented from entering by senior police officials. “We have not received any information about my son. We are extremely worried,” he expressed emotionally.

In an interview, Singh conveyed his frustration, stating that they still have no concrete updates about their son. Police have instructed them to stay back, assuring that the administration is managing the situation. The last communication with his son occurred when he informed them about the fire.

Professor Sonia Nityanand, Vice Chancellor of King George’s Medical University (KGMU), confirmed that they are aware of the ongoing situation. “The fire incident occurred in Aliganj, and we are doing everything possible to rescue those trapped. However, it is essential to conduct post-mortems for the deceased,” she stated. She emphasized that their focus remains on saving those who can be treated.

Dr. Prem Raj Singh, Chief Medical Superintendent of KGMU’s trauma center, reported that 21 individuals were admitted to the hospital, with six in stable condition. One child, who jumped from the upper floor, sustained a back injury but is also stable. Unfortunately, 15 others were brought in deceased. “We are completing the necessary legal formalities and sending the bodies to the morgue. Hospital beds are reserved, and there is no shortage of medication or beds,” he assured.

Vishal Srivastava, a relative of one of the victims, Aditya Srivastava, revealed that he was his cousin and had been trapped inside during the fire.

Eyewitnesses reported that a short circuit in an electric pole may have sparked the fire, which quickly spread upwards. Six to seven students reportedly jumped to save their lives.

A passerby recounted, “We were on our way to work when we saw the fire and stopped to see what was happening. People here are saying that children are trapped inside the building.”

A local resident mentioned that some individuals suggested the fire could have been caused by a short circuit. “We will know the full details only after the official report is released. I just arrived here,” he added.
