Visakhapatnam, June 14: The death toll from the recent devastating explosion at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, operated by Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), has risen to 10. The count increased after contract worker Suribabu succumbed to injuries on Saturday while receiving treatment. Injured individuals are currently being treated at King George Hospital (KGH).
Upon learning of the incident, local MLA and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) state president Palla Srinivasa Rao rushed to KGH. He paid tribute to the deceased Suribabu and expressed deep condolences to the grieving family members. Palla assured the family of all possible assistance, stating that the government stands by them during this difficult time.
Palla Srinivasa Rao engaged with relevant officials to ensure that all formalities, including the post-mortem, were completed without delay. He stated, “The families of the deceased will receive appropriate compensation and other support from both the plant management and the government as soon as possible. I am personally monitoring this matter.”
The MLA emphasized that the safety and welfare of workers is the government’s top priority. He urged the steel plant management to strengthen safety protocols and take effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Palla remarked, “Workers in the industrial sector are the backbone of our economy. Ensuring their safety is our responsibility. The plant management should focus on regular safety audits, better training, and modern safety equipment.”
This tragic incident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has once again raised questions about industrial safety measures. Labor unions have accused the plant management of negligence and are demanding an investigation. The local administration has announced immediate financial assistance for the families of the deceased, and the government will cover all medical expenses for the injured.
RINL management expressed sorrow over the accident and stated that a high-level investigation is underway, with strict action to be taken against those found responsible.
