
New Delhi, June 29: A tragic accident occurred on the Kotdwara-Pauri National Highway in Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand, on Sunday. During road widening work near Satpuli, a massive boulder fell from the mountain onto a Bolero vehicle. The incident resulted in the death of one person at the scene, while two others sustained serious injuries.
According to reports, around 3 PM on Sunday, road widening was underway on the Gumkhal-Satpuli route. Suddenly, a large boulder rolled down from the hillside, striking a Bolero vehicle registered in Ghaziabad. The vehicle was traveling from Gumkhal to Satpuli.
The impact severely damaged the Bolero. The deceased was identified as Shrikant, 45, a resident of Kerala, who died on the spot. The driver, along with two passengers, Saranjeet, 61, from Delhi, and Uday from West Bengal, suffered critical injuries. It is reported that all three were employed at a private company in Ghaziabad.
Upon receiving news of the incident, local police, the SDRF team, and villagers rushed to the scene. During the rescue operation, rescuers had to use cutting machines to extricate the trapped individuals from the vehicle. After considerable effort, the injured were freed and transported to a hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
The police have taken possession of the deceased’s body for post-mortem examination and have initiated further investigations into the incident. The families of the injured have been informed about the accident.
In a separate incident on the Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl tragically lost her life. Reports indicate that a truck lost traction while reversing uphill, causing it to slide back. During this time, a motorcycle carrying a husband, wife, and their daughter stopped behind the truck. When they noticed the truck rolling towards them, they attempted to move, but their motorcycle was caught under the truck, resulting in the girl being crushed by the front tires.
