New Delhi, September 1 (Kiran News). The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has announced the final 19-member Indian squad for the upcoming World Athletics Championships, scheduled to be held in Tokyo next month. The team comprises 14 men and 5 women athletes who will compete across 15 different events.

India’s biggest medal hope is once again javelin world champion Neeraj Chopra, who has directly qualified as the defending champion through a wildcard entry. In addition to Chopra, three more Indian javelin throwers—Sachin Yadav, Yash Veer Singh, and Rohit Yadav—will also compete.
Three athletes have directly qualified by meeting the entry standards: Gulveer Singh (5000 metres), Praveen Chithravel (triple jump), and Parul Chaudhary (3000 metres steeplechase). Gulveer will also participate in the 10,000 metres, while middle-distance runner Pooja will compete in both the 800 metres and 1500 metres events.
However, Avinash Sable, Nandini Agarasara, and Akshdeep Singh, despite qualifying, were unable to make the team due to medical reasons.
AFI’s chief coach Radhakrishnan Nair stated that a pre-competition training camp will be held in Tokyo from September 4 to 9. All athletes will shift to the official hotel on September 10. Neeraj Chopra will join the team directly from the Czech Republic on September 5.
The World Athletics Championships will be held in Tokyo from September 13 to 21.
