Peace and Prosperity Transform Jammu and Kashmir into a Premier Host for Global Events

Jammu, March 29: The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, stated on Sunday that peace, prosperity, and favorable conditions have made this union territory a significant host for world-class events. Speaking at the Jammu Marathon’s award ceremony held at Maulana Azad Stadium, Sinha emphasized that the marathon symbolizes the profound changes that Jammu and Kashmir has embraced since 2019.

He remarked, “Peace, prosperity, and conducive conditions have turned this union territory into a destination for global events. This dream has finally come true, as after seven decades, Jammu and Kashmir is reclaiming its rightful place on the global stage.”

Describing the Jammu Marathon as a historic milestone, the LG noted that Jammu has firmly established itself on the global running map. He further stated that the success of this mega event promises an increase in tourism in the charming city of Jammu, benefiting businesses and heralding a new era of comprehensive development.

Sinha expressed, “I view the marathon as an event where runners are not concerned about trophies, rankings, or medals. They only think about the next step. This is the greatest lesson from the marathon. Jammu and Kashmir embodies this principle. Since 2019, we have been moving forward step by step, forging a new identity for this union territory. We have transformed it into a center of peace and prosperity, now capable of hosting international marathons, cricket tournaments, and even global events.”

He recalled that when the central government first envisioned the Kashmir Marathon during a meeting in December 2023, the goal was not just to organize a race but to imagine a new Jammu and Kashmir making its mark on the global sports platform. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Jammu and Kashmir is now showcasing its immense tourism potential on the world map. Long-held dreams and aspirations are now becoming a reality.

LG Sinha added, “Through the Jammu Marathon, participants have not only discovered new experiences within themselves but have also witnessed the profound changes occurring in Jammu and Kashmir.”

He noted that inspired by the unwavering resolve of the citizens, Jammu and Kashmir is setting new benchmarks in development. A new determination is taking root in our sports arena. I am particularly pleased that, in line with the ‘Fit India’ initiative, we are also initiating a new sports revolution in Jammu and Kashmir.

The first international half marathon in Jammu, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir tourism department, featured categories of 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km, with over 3,000 runners participating from across the country and abroad.

The award ceremony was attended by Jammu and Kashmir’s Youth Services and Sports Minister Satish Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary of the Tourism Department Ashish Chandra Verma, Jammu’s Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tooti, senior officials from civil and police administration, film actor Milind Soman, actress Gul Panag, prominent citizens, athletes, and a large number of youth.
