New Delhi, March 29: Iran has claimed responsibility for damaging the American aircraft ‘E-3 Sentry AWACS’ during its attacks on Sunday. The strikes targeted US planes at the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), an E-3 Sentry AWACS stationed at the Prince Sultan Air Base suffered damage from the Iranian assault. Additionally, several refueling aircraft (KC-135) were also reported to be damaged. This aircraft is considered crucial for the US’s regional air surveillance and command capabilities, serving as the eyes and brains on the battlefield.
Earlier, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have targeted an American F-16 Fighting Falcon and an MQ-9 Reaper drone. The air defense system neutralized aircraft and drones attempting to intrude into Iran’s southern airspace.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) acknowledged on the social media platform X that its F-16 Fighting Falcon had been targeted.
In an official statement released through its news outlet Sepah News, the IRGC stated that the American fighter jet and drone were struck during joint counter-missile and drone operations conducted by its naval and aerospace divisions. These operations were aimed at heavy industries linked to the US and Israel.
Moreover, Iran has issued a stern warning regarding potential attacks on American universities. The Iranian government has accused the US and Israel of deliberately targeting its universities and schools. Consequently, the IRGC has threatened to target American universities in the Middle East.
The IRGC claimed that two Iranian universities have been devastated by US and Israeli attacks. In a statement released by Iranian media, it was mentioned, “If the US government wishes to protect its universities in the region from retaliatory actions, it must condemn the bombing of Iranian universities by noon on March 30, Tehran time.”
