Patna, August 6: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary emphasized the increasing necessity of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technology for effective governance and development. Speaking on Thursday, he warned that failing to adopt these technologies promptly could hinder progress. He urged public representatives to leverage AI-based tools for better monitoring of schemes and improved communication with citizens.
During a sensitization program for members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Chaudhary launched a web portal for the Chief Minister’s Area Development Scheme, known as the Project Monitoring System. He noted that while computer usage was limited two decades ago, AI and digital technologies now play a crucial role in governance, administration, and development.
The Chief Minister encouraged ministers, legislators, and council members to maximize the use of these technologies to enhance the monitoring of development plans and ensure timely solutions to public issues. He highlighted the effectiveness of AI in preparing estimates for development projects, citing a case where costs were reduced by five to seven percent through AI analysis, allowing those savings to be redirected to other projects.
Chaudhary mentioned that the state government is utilizing AI in the operation of cooperative programs and in providing ration cards to one crore eligible individuals. Additionally, a digital survey of farmers is underway, with a goal to connect 6 million farmers to digital IDs. He urged public representatives to focus on the effective implementation of development plans through technology-based monitoring systems.
He also pointed out that while computer education is being provided in schools, there is a need to strengthen this initiative to meet the demands of the digital age. The establishment of an Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science University in Muzaffarpur is expected to promote technical education and research in the state.
Chaudhary stressed the importance of training ministers, legislators, and their aides in the use of AI, computers, and social media to keep them updated with new technologies and improve public service delivery. He noted that weather centers are operational in all panchayats, providing forecasts that are 70 to 80 percent accurate, which is beneficial for agriculture and rural development.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Bihar Assembly Speaker Dr. Prem Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, and other senior officials and members of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
