Lucknow, August 6: The President of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mayawati, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Umashankar Singh, the party’s legislator from the Rasra constituency in Ballia.
In her condolence message, Mayawati described Singh as a dedicated, honest, and loyal representative of the BSP. She stated that his death, due to a prolonged illness while receiving treatment, is extremely tragic. She extended her heartfelt condolences to his family and all his supporters.
Mayawati praised Singh’s unwavering loyalty to the party, noting that his entire family is part of the BSP family and has always treated her with great respect, referring to her as an elder sister. She received the news of his passing from his son during their ongoing communication. Umashankar Singh had been battling cancer for the past two years and was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Delhi. He was regarded as one of the most prominent and powerful figures in the politics of Purvanchal. Born on January 2, 1971, in a humble farming family in Khanwar village, Ballia district, Singh was elected as a legislator from the Rasra constituency three consecutive times. He first won the seat in 2012 on a BSP ticket and successfully retained it in 2017 and 2022, despite the BJP’s strong wave. In 2022, Singh managed to preserve his seat in Rasra.
