TMC Leaders Criticize PM Modis Remarks After Kolkata Rally

Kolkata, March 14: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally at the Brigade Parade Ground, senior leaders and ministers of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) accused the BJP of engaging in vandalism and violence.

Immediately after the rally, TMC leaders Bratya Basu, Shashi Panja, and party MP Sayani Ghosh held an emergency press conference at the TMC headquarters on Sunday.

During the press conference, Education Minister Bratya Basu launched a sharp attack on PM Modi, stating, “The tone used by the PM while speaking at Brigade was clearly reflected in Girish Park. The alleged vandalism at Minister Shashi Panja’s residence by BJP workers is unprecedented. Was this attack inspired by the Prime Minister’s words?”

He added, “We have not witnessed any instance in any state where stones, bottles, and glass pieces have been thrown at the residence of a sitting minister. At a time when Mamata Banerjee is promoting a peaceful and secular Bengal, the BJP has resorted to such acts right before the elections.”

Prior to PM Modi’s rally, stones were reportedly thrown at Minister Shashi Panja’s residence in the Girish Park area of North Kolkata. TMC workers claim that BJP activists executed this act while heading to the Prime Minister’s rally at Brigade Parade Ground. The minister alleged that she sustained injuries during the incident.

In response, the BJP countered the allegations, claiming that TMC workers threw bricks at their activists marching from Girish Park.

Present at the scene, Shashi Panja recounted her experience, stating, “While heading to the Brigade rally today, BJP workers allegedly created a ruckus right in front of my residence. As our colleagues were putting up banners, a group wearing BJP caps traveling in a bus shouted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and engaged in violence.”

Discussing her injuries, Shashi Panja remarked, “It doesn’t matter if I am a minister or just a woman. A brick was thrown directly at me, hitting my abdomen. I was injured in the area where I previously had surgery. Such actions have no place in democratic politics.”

In light of this incident, Shashi Panja also questioned the Prime Minister’s comments made during the rally. Referring to PM Modi’s warning of “settling scores,” she asked, “Is an attack on a minister an example of ‘settling scores’? Are you only the Prime Minister of the BJP, or of the entire country?”

Reports indicate that three TMC workers, Shubham, Souvik, and Krishna, were seriously injured in the incident, suffering injuries to their chest and head.
