TMC Candidates Cast Votes in West Bengal Elections, Claim Victory

Kolkata, April 29: The second phase of voting for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 is underway. During this period, leaders and candidates from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) exercised their voting rights and asserted their confidence in forming the government.

TMC candidate Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay from the Ballygunge constituency displayed his inked finger after voting, expressing satisfaction with the democratic process. He noted that voter participation in various areas has been commendable, with a significant number of people coming out to cast their votes.

Arindam Guin, TMC candidate from the Champdani constituency, voted alongside his wife and daughter. Meanwhile, minister and candidate Chandrima Bhattacharya cast her vote at polling booth number 126 located in South Kolkata Arya Vidyalaya.

TMC MP Sougata Roy commented on the voting process, stating that everything is proceeding smoothly and that voting is taking place vigorously in Kolkata. He credited the maintenance of peace to the political parties involved, rather than solely to paramilitary forces.

Madhupurna Thakur, TMC candidate from the Bagda seat, also described the voting process as peaceful. She praised the state police for facilitating smooth voting and specifically urged young voters to participate in large numbers, emphasizing that every vote counts.

However, reports of tension and disputes have emerged from some areas. TMC candidate Shaukat Molla from Bhangar alleged that police brutality occurred the night before voting. According to him, officers broke down doors and assaulted people, resulting in injuries that required hospital treatment. He described this as an attempt to intimidate voters but asserted that TMC workers are not easily frightened.

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Thakur also stood in line like ordinary voters to cast her ballot. She stated that everyone is equal in a democracy and does not require special privileges.

Additionally, TMC leaders have opposed BJP candidate Ratna Debnath’s visits to every polling booth, alleging that such activities could influence voters.
